Immigration has become the hottest subject for debate during the presidential campaign. While candidates argue over who’s right and what are the best policies regarding the foreign nationals living illegally in the United States, Americans have their own opinions on this matter. Contrary to what some politicians may proclaim, the recent polls suggest that the vast majority of U.S. residents are in favor of allowing undocumented immigrants to live in the country.
For instance, a just-released survey from the Pew Research Center indicates that 74 percent of Americans believe that illegal immigrants should be allowed to remain in the U.S. and almost half of the respondents even suggested they should be supported to apply for full citizenship. Only 24 percent are in favor of deportation. Another survey shows that few Americans view deportation as the best solution. In fact, it would cost the country a lot more to send the undocumented immigrants home than to permit them the stay. Several industries depend largely on foreign workforce.
