With a median wage of over $26.000, the U.S. holds a strong position in the global workforce. Most people would feel more than comfortable with this amount, but the truth is that the American labor market has a lot more to offer in terms of extremely high salaries.
Whether you are happy with your job or not, this list will make you reconsider your position. Let’s check out the best paying jobs in America!

  1. Physician

Physicians in the U.S. earn over $220.000 per year. That’s almost ten times the average salary! And the even better news? The job is not only the highest paying, but also in demand, which means that with the right qualifications and experience your salary can also go through the roof. Besides, the medical industry rules the day, with several other profitable occupations, such as anesthesiologist, surgeon and any other specialty.

  1. Dentist and orthodontist

We all know that visiting the dentist’s office is no trip to Disneyland, but we still do it and it’s highly unlikely that dentists will ever go out of business.  The job is highly in demand right now and it pays around $160.000 per year. Orthodontists earn even more, taking home $196,270, due to the fact that they are much rarer. There are more than 90.000 dentists in the U.S., and only 5.500 orthodontists.

  1. Chief executive officer (CEO)

There are nearly 250.000 chief executive officers around the U.S., making a median annual salary of $173,300, plus bonuses. Not bad at all, considering that you don’t necessarily need years after years of schooling, compared to a physician, for example. But that doesn’t mean it’s easy to get there. You’ll need extensive experience the before you can write CEO on your business card.

  1. Petroleum engineer

Although it’s a fluctuating field, the petroleum industry has always been known for its generous salaries and petroleum engineering has been one of the highest paid engineering disciplines ever. Due to the slightly decreasing demand in the last few years, companies are now investing a lot more into research and production optimization. This translates into high wages for the right professionals. The median annual salary for a petroleum engineer is $130,280 and has a projected growth of 26 % by the year 2022.

  1. Marketing managers

Great marketing managers can sell anything to anyone and that’s why they have an annual mean wage of $133.700. Depending on the field they work in, salaries can go a lot higher, up to $170.000. The best-paying jobs are located in New York, San Jose, California and Williamsport, Pennsylvania.  The good thing about this job is that you don’t need a degree in marketing, as long as you have the right skills. So it’s not a bad idea to give it a try, especially considering that an additional 22.000 jobs will need to be filled by the year 2022, according to The Bureau of Labor Statistics.
