The labor market is doubtless getting more challenging by the year but it seems that US employees handle this situation quite well. Although long hours have become in many cases a mandatory component of the job description, a recent study found that 85 percent of employees don’t mind it so much and are, in fact, happy with their jobs. Respondents said that answering emails at night or during the weekends doesn’t make them less motivated when they are at the office. Nevertheless, some of them admitted that they felt overwhelmed.
Researchers state that these somehow contradictory findings could be explained because people who have too much free time tend to get bored, and therefore would rather go back to work. Another explanation could be that some employees believe that working around the clock is not unusual and that work should occupy a larger share than time for themselves or their families.
The study also found that about a quarter of employees surveyed continue to work after their hours are done, and four in ten employees work on weekends.
