US trying to ease the family reunification program for Filipino veterans

Love And Patriotism - Usa Flag On Heart Shaped HandsThe US Citizenship and Immigration Services have recently announced that it’s working out ways to ease the process for the reunification of Filipino veterans in the United States and their relatives in the Philippines. The FilVets family parole program allows eligible Filipinos to relocate to the U.S. to provide care and support to their veteran family members who are U.S. citizens of permanent residents.

Beginning June 8, 2016, the US Citizenship and Immigration Services started accepting applications for parole from eligible Filipino WWII veteran family members who are beneficiaries of approved family-based immigrant visa petitions. Successful applicants receive a discretionary grant of parole on a case-by-case basis so that they can relocate to the U.S. while they wait for their immigrant visa to become available. USCIS estimates there are 2,000 to 6,000 Filipino-American World War II veterans living in the United States today.

The program represents an acknowledgment of the importance of the Filipino veterans in the U.S. history and a symbol of gratitude for their sacrifices. The parole program’s implementation is also a step towards strengthening the diplomatic relationship between the U.S. and the Philippines.
