US immigrant unemployment is at record low

10727642_sThe U.S. unemployment rate is at its lowest level since July 2007, at 4.7 percent, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics data released earlier this week. The jobless rate among immigrant workers has always been below the national level, but has now plunged even lower. In May, only 3.7 percent of foreign-born workers in the U.S. were unemployed.

Immigrants are more focused than their U.S.-born peers on finding work, specialists say. Most of them came to the country for a better life, and in many cases it all starts with a good job so it is understandable why they are more motivated.

Employment could also be a visa requirement for some of them. For instance, foreign-born graduates who studied in the U.S. have a limited period of time to find work in order to have their permit extended, and therefore they put in more effort to get a job.

In any case, the U.S. economy is creating jobs constantly and immigrant workers are taking them. This is a win-win situation for both the U.S. and immigrants.
