Top tech US companies that hire foreign skilled workers

America

According to a study from the National Foundation for American Policy, a non-profit research organization, about 26,000 U.S. employers hired at least one foreign worker through the H-1B program in 2015. Most H-1B visas went to the tech industry, where the internationally trained workforce is much appreciated and sought after. In fact, five of the top six companies which received the highest number of visas last year were tech-related firms.

The highest number of H-1B petitions approved in 2015 belongs to TCS (Tata Consultancy Services), one of the major IT companies in the United States. Cognizant was second, with 3,812 petitions to hire foreign workers approved. Wipro had 3,079, Infosys 2,830, and the giant IBM had 1,919 visas approved. Amazon hired 1,058 temporary foreign workers last year, whereas Microsoft employed 961 foreign high-skilled workers. The next tech companies are Google (833 H-1B visas), Intel (628), Apple (532), Oracle (493), Facebook (408), and Cisco (267).

The tech community has addressed several requests for the government to expand the cap on H-1B visas. The U.S. government issues 65,000 H-1B visas annually, but the actual demand is much higher considering the development in tech-related sectors. According to a report by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the U.S. will face a shortage of about 223,000 workers in STEM fields by 2018.
