June 13: the Supreme Court has allowed more time to the President Trump for filing the papers related to the proposed immigration ban on 6 Muslim countries. This step is more likely to delay the emergency application and implementation of the ban.
The ban issued on 6 th March was actually the second attempt to impose various travel restrictions through an exclusive order. It is said that the Trump administration is allowed to file the papers till this Thursday. Hawaii which has previously challenged the band and has won appeals court can also submit papers till 20 th June.
This means that the court cannot respond immediately to the emergency ban imposing application, at least until the next week. It is also heard that President Trump will got to the Supreme Court on Thursday by himself for the investiture of Justice Gorsuch. It will be his first visit to the court after being elected as president.
He would be facing 9 judges as they will judge the pros and cons of this immigration ban. It is worth mentioning here that presidents usually attend these events, and their presence there is purely ceremonial. A week after this ceremony, the Supreme Court may decide how to react to emergency imposing ban application in a private meeting.
Until now, federal judges of various states have rejected the 90 day ban on the 6 Muslim cities. They stated that the executive order violates the federal immigration law and hence the government cannot support or reject a particular religion.
