As of October 1st, 2015, the US Department of State is accepting registrations for the 2017 Diversity Immigrant Visa, also known as the Green Card Lottery. Online registrations will end on November 3, 2015, at 12.00 EDT. Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria and submit their application in the given time will have a chance to win one of the 50.000 green cards.
The DV Program is without a doubt the most popular immigration program in the U.S. It provides a path to permanent residence for foreign nationals regardless of whether they have a sponsoring employer or an American family member.
For the 2017 Diversity Visa, natives of Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (mainland-born), Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Haiti, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, the Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and Vietnam will not be eligible, as they have sent a higher number of immigrants to the United States in the previous years. The purpose of the program is, as it says in the name, to encourage immigration from the lowest countries of origin for immigrants in the U.S.
