Pinterest commits to hire more minorities

7With over 600 employees, Pinterest recently announced that one of its main goals for 2016 is to bring more color to the company in terms of work force.

The company has certainly made some progress over the past year and it has been praised for making a strong commitment to diversity. However, there’s still a long way to go. According to the company’s latest diversity report, almost half of the employees are white and 43% are Asian. This doesn’t leave a lot of room for the many other nationalities living in the U.S.

Pinterest blared out that in 2016, 8% of its new engineering hires and 12% of non-engineering hires will be from underrepresented ethnic backgrounds. Also, managers are required to interview at least one person from an underrepresented background when leadership positions are available.

Pinterest is neither the first nor the only company to focus on diversity. Last year, three tech giants (Google, Apple and Facebook) released diversity reports and manifested interest in recruiting from a wider variety of ethnic backgrounds.
