Men with mustaches more likely to have academic medical jobs

ID-100284565Men with mustaches represent 19 percent of department leaders in the top US medical schools funded by the National Institutes of Health, according to a recent study which focused on the balance of sexes in medical academia. The researchers made no discrimination and counted all types of mustaches while compiling data. It seems that the thickest mustache density could be found at doctors in the psychiatry, pathology and anesthesiology departments.

The study shows that women make up more than 20 percent of department leaders in five specialties: pediatrics, family medicine, obstetrics and gynecology, dermatology, and emergency medicine. Overall, women account for 13 percent of department leaders. The researchers intended to point out that more diversity is needed in the American medical system and hope that the study will trigger some effects in this sense.

Another interesting study conducted earlier this year found that men named John are more likely to run large U.S. companies than women. The second favorite name was David.
