In six US states, 25 percent of population is made of immigrants

In six US states, immigrants and their children make 25 percent of the population, according to a new study published by the Center for Immigration Studies. Roughly a quarter of the population in California, Florida, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, and Texas is foreign-born or has at least an immigrant parent.

In Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Illinois, Oregon, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Mexico, Rhode Island, Virginia, and Washington more than 15 percent of the population is made of immigrants and their young children.

The report also shows a massive increase among immigrant population in the last 45 years. According to the CIS study, in only five states the percentage of immigrant population has grown by less than 100 percent. In most of the states, the share of incomers has more than doubled. For instance, in Arizona, Arkansas, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia, the immigrant population grew by more than 1000 percent. In Georgia, Nevada, and North Carolina, the increase was of more than 2000 percent since 1970.
