Immigrants in the US more likely to work than America-born

Screwdriver with flag of USA patternA new study from Harvard University professor George Borjas, based on data from the U.S. Census Bureau, brings forward an interesting conclusion, that is, men in the U.S. illegally are more likely to work than their American-born counterparts and they are willing to accept more jobs than they native-born men.

According to the report, the employment gap between immigrant men and other workers enhanced over the past two decades. In 2014, the probability that an immigrant man without legal status was employed was 12 percent higher than among American-born men. In fact, undocumented immigrant men are far more likely to work than any other group in the U.S. Employment among undocumented women is slightly lower.

A previous report from the Pew Research Center found that the number of illegal immigrants in the U.S. has been steady over the past five years, at 11.3 million. Among them, 8.1 million are either working or looking for work. This represents 5 percent of the U.S. labor force.
