Man with USA Citizenship Application

Typically, spouses of US citizens employed by the US government like the military and slated to be stationed in a foreign country in their employment for a minimum of one year may qualify for naturalization. Generally, the spouse of a US citizen employed by the US government abroad must be in the US at the time when the naturalization application is being scrutinized.

The applicant is not required to be a permanent resident of the US; however, his/her spouse must be a permanent resident in order for the applicant to be eligible for naturalization. Furthermore, there is no requirement of a definite period of continuous residence or physical presence in the US for the applicant.

While there is no requirement for a specified period or marital union for the couple, the couple still must be in an effective marital union at the time of applying for naturalization.

The applicant must be at least 18 years of age when filing the application and be able to read, write, and speak English. Furthermore, he/she must have a good knowledge of US history, culture, and government. The applicant will be assessed for his/her moral character in light of the provisions of the US Constitution.

Spouses of US citizens employed abroad qualify for naturalization under Section 319(a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). For the US military personnel, the latest changes in immigration law and the USCIS process have made the application for naturalization a smooth and easy process. However, you should still do your research before filing for naturalization. You should be completely aware of the responsibilities and rights of being a US citizen, the naturalization process and steps, and the eligibility criteria.
