Early next week, Trump will sign updated travel ban

Donald Trump

Early next week (probably on Monday), president Trump is expected to sign an updated executive order banning travel from certain Middle East and African countries. This order was supposed to be signed last Wednesday, but, Trump pushed it back after his joint address to Congress received overwhelmingly positive reviews.

According to some sources, Trump wanted the new executive order to have its own “moment”.

Also, sources added that Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Secretary of Defense James Mattis and national security adviser H.R. McMaster, in the new executive order, have advocated for Iraq to be removed from the administration’s list of banned countries for different diplomatic reasons. James Kelly, Homeland Security Secretary, supported the move as well.

This news of the pending announcement came after lawyers for the Justice Department stated in a court filing that the President plans to formally “rescind” the old travel ban and replace it with “a new, substantially revised” executive order. Previously, the Justice Department had indicated in a court filing that a new executive order was on the way.

Judge James Robert , in a written order granting the Trump administration a two-week extension to respond to a federal class-action lawsuit against the travel ban, noted the plaintiffs’ frustrations over the obvious contradictions between what Spicer and Justice Department lawyers have said about plans to review the executive order.
