According to the latest Field Poll, Californians’ support for expanding health care coverage to illegal immigrants is increasing. 58 percent of respondents said they are in favor of providing Medi-Cal to all foreign residents, regardless of their legal status. These numbers show a 7 percent addition compared to last year’s results, and what’s even more important is that they reveal a more positive and lenient attitude towards their fellow undocumented citizens.
Moreover, extending health care coverage for unauthorized immigrants has become a priority for several Democratic politicians in the state, and thanks to their legal initiatives, all children under 19 will benefit from Medi-Cal, whether they are lawful inhabitants or not. In addition, unauthorized immigrants might be able to get health insurance through the state exchange although they would not be eligible to receive subsidies.
This is the first time that Obamacare is widely supported in every major city of the state, among all categories of residents.
