Lately, there have been many articles written about the Asians finding successful paths after arriving in the United States, but they are not the only ones who thrive in the U.S. Although it is true that incomers from East Asia are highly educated and work-oriented, they are not the most educated group of immigrants in the U.S.
According to recent Census data, the most well-read wave of immigrants comes from the African continent. More than 43 percent of African immigrants hold at least a bachelor’s degree. Nigerians are the most educated, with almost two-thirds having university degrees, more than any other foreign group. Many African immigrants also have advanced degrees, some of them earned at American institutions.
Higher education usually means higher incomes and the Africans can prove that. For example, Nigerian-Americans have a median household income above the American average and above the other groups of successful immigrants.
